During the Burlington City Council meeting on March 19, 2024, the Council discussed and ultimately approved a rezoning request for the property located at 1210 Kirkpatrick Road. The Council members appeared receptive to the project, seeking clarification on certain aspects and expressing no major concerns or objections.
When discussing the potential impact of the rezoning on infrastructure, particularly roadways, Council member Baltutis inquired about the future land use map
Planning Director Jamie Lawson confirmed the “utilities are good.” but is the the roadways in reference to access uh could that tanel all of this in terms one multi panel."
Lawson assured the Council that any future development proposals would undergo a thorough technical review process, which may include a traffic impact analysis to determine if modifications to existing roadways would be necessary. The Council seemed satisfied with this explanation, and no further concerns were raised regarding infrastructure.
After a brief discussion, the City Council approved the rezoning request, demonstrating their overall support for the project. The approved motion acknowledged that while the request may have been inconsistent with the future land use map in the comprehensive plan, it was deemed compatible with existing residential uses in the area and aligned with the goal of encouraging a sustainable balance of land uses.
Another Council member sought clarification on the lack of plans for the site,to which Lawson confirmed that no specific plans had been presented at that time.
During the public comment period, no one from the community came forward to speak either in support of or in opposition to the rezoning request, suggesting a lack of strong public sentiment regarding the project.
